Vigil For Life Brand Redesign

Brand Design   //   Web Design  //  Logo Design

Vigil for Life is a pro-life sidewalk prayer activist group in the Madison area. Their goal is to activate people to pray all day, every day, for the end of abortion, in front of the planned parenthood on Owen Rd.. Their website is the primary way they organize the local community. There, people can sign up using an interactive calendar. On the calendar volunteers can see what days and hours already have vigil-goers and sign up for the times that need more people.

The old site’s design was lacking. It was disorganized, redundant, and boring. The navigation was unintuitive and didn’t clearly direct people to sign up for vigil times. My two main goals were to improve the navigation and aesthetics of the website.

Ease of use was a primary goal. If it’s too hard to sign up for a potential vigil-goers may be discouraged from going out to pray altogether. Improving the user design would reduce deterrents to signing up. To do this, I placed the sign-up form at the top of the main page, making it big, with clearly marked buttons. Using color and contrast, anyone can easily see what’s clickable and selected.

I completely revamped the design. I chose warm browns to make it a welcoming, and down-to-earth style. Adding gritty texture, I represented the hard, and sometimes dangerous work sidewalk prayer can be. I opted to show real vigils and people to promote the pro-life community.

The logo is inspired by the vigil candle, a symbol of reverence to life. The old logo used a candle; but incorporating Vigil For Life’s initials (VFL) and using a number instead of the letter “F” makes the logo more specific to this organization, as well as modernizing it with the use of the number 4.
